I recently wrote a blog post for InCulture Parent Magazine, a fantastic online community that celebrates multicultural living and provides resources for families “raising little global citizens.”
Here’s an excerpt from my post, The International Adoption Experience: Living in the Great Unknown.
“I’m a compulsive list maker, and I write (full-time) for a living. Deadlines and to dos are always with me. The pressure of an approaching deadline can be stressful, but when that blog post, research project or magazine article is delivered, the relief is a beautiful thing.”

Your turn: What is something you waited a long time for? How did you get through the wilderness of waiting?
We waited nearly a decade before we finally successfully adopted our daughter. It was a difficult journey. Trusting God and crying out to Him when I didn’t understand were the only things that brought me through that time (and having faith when the time was right to make the decision we needed to make).http://delanasworld.wordpress.com/2011/10/06/a-season-of-waiting/

I can’t imagine waiting almost a decade, Delana. That is amazing and truly puts our wait into perspective. What a very difficult journey! Thanks for your comment and for reading the post. I read your post on tips for the adoption journey and identified with so much of it. I look forward to reading more of your work and staying in touch this way.
Michelle,
Thank you for your support. As you know I left the Alois Alzheimer’s Center after 25+ years to take what we have learned and improve care for persons with dementia and their families in all health care environments as it is simply not good and they deserve so much more. It is just not right that they spend their final years of life in such poor conditions with helpless families standing by who love them unable to change it. Wish us well.
I continue to follow you and enjoy your insights. If there is ever an opportunity to serve you please let me know.
Warm regards,
Susan

Susan, it is so wonderful to hear from you! I have been thinking about you ever since our interview call and I regret not being in touch sooner or more often. I’m also disappointed that I wasn’t able to come out to visit the Center while you were still there! It sounds like you have taken an incredible next step in your career though, and I know that the families and organizations you work with are more than fortunate to have your support and help. I definitely wish you all the best and would love to reconnect soon (by phone/email) if possible. Thank you for continuing to follow me; I look forward to someday meeting you in person and working together somehow. My very best!
